Following a diet is never easy, especially to begin with, and to tell the truth just because you’re going to do the Atkins Diet, it doesn’t mean that it will get any easier either. Sure, you can eat almost unlimited quantity of high fat and high protein foods, but you’re still on a diet and you still need to limit your food consumption.

For one thing, you will have to limit your carb intake especially in the first stage of your diet, and although you get to increase that bit by bit later on in the diet, you might still be missing your favourite carbs, like bread or chocolate, and can still be prone to these cravings. And that’s where some of the Atkins products can help.

Having tasted some of these Atkins products myself, I have to say that I consider them to be value for money. They’re by no means cheap but then again, nor are they so expensive that you’ll only be able to afford one product and go hungry for the rest of the time, which might, in its own way help that you lose weight!

However, you’ll be glad to know that there’s a range of Atkins products for you to select from that can help satisfy even your strongest food cravings and as an added benefit, as I said before, they taste great as well. But if that isn’t enough for you, you’ll be happy to hear that they can also satisfy your sweet cravings as well as being good for you and filling you up!

So, what Atkins products can you get? Well, they cover a wide range of food, so it really depends on what stage of the diet you’re on and what you crave. If it’s breakfast bars, you’ve got the ‘Morning Start Breakfast Bars’ which are high in protein and fiber and also have the right amount of calcium you’ll require as well. Then you’ll come across my own personal favourite, the ‘Peanut Butter Granola Bar’, made with crunchy goodness and peanut butter.

Then again if you truly miss something from your diet, you can always try one of the Atkins products which feature different flavours, say the milk shakes. For example, if you miss chocolate, you could try an Atkins Chocolate Milk Shake. Let’s be honest, where would you be without milk shakes? Probably in the same place you’d be without your ‘Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars’.

Have I told you enough to whet your appetite? Do you reckon that you can stick to your diet with any of these Atkins products lining your shelves with only a minimum of groaning?

There you are then, what are you waiting for, go and grab your Atkins products now. There’s only so much will power a person has, so the better prepared you are the easier your diet will be! And so the quicker you can lose that weight.

How to Get a Good Workout Indoors

Posted by Sheker Gadol | Posted in weight loss | Posted on 20-09-2011-05-2008

Depending on where you live, most areas in the United States have parts of the year when it is just not so practical to workout outdoors. In the northern regions that time is usually in the winter when it is too cold to go outside and in the south it might be during the summer when it could be too hot to workout outside.

Because of this, there are a lot of people that opt to exercise indoors rather than risk any dangerous situations in the outdoors. But that doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice the quality of your workout in order to get the same level of benefits that you do outside.

Different machines help you reach your goals and the best part is that you can stay inside when you are doing it. Choose between the treadmill, the elliptical and the stair machine.

The treadmill offers you the opportunity to get a run in without having to be concerned about the weather conditions, be it too hot or too cold. You will be able to adjust the intensity and speed very easily and perhaps achieve an even better workout than if you went running outside.

In addition to avoiding the inclement weather, you will also have the ability to run on a softer surface than when you run on the streets outside, and this is good for your body. Although, the truth is that it can often times be rather boring to run indoors if you are used to the outdoors.

Another option is the elliptical which provides a great workout without any of the impact that happens when you are running. There is no outdoor exercise like it so you aren’t really giving up anything because there is no alternative in the first place.

Another option is the stair machine that can provide a great workout. If you spend a few minutes on a stair climber you can see many benefits so go slow at first.

Give these machines a test and see which one you enjoy and which also challenges you best. When you find one that fits both of these criteria you can give it a spin inside.

Just keep in mind that you can get just as fit indoors as you can outdoors. If you start to get a little bored, pick up a good book and keep going.

Wanting To Eat Less On The Atkins Diet

Posted by Owen Jones | Posted in weight loss | Posted on 07-09-2011-05-2008

One of the most common, but nevertheless unexpected results of ‘doing’ the Atkins diet is appetite suppression. Many followers of the plan state that the between meal hunger pangs they used to experience just fade away and very rapidly too. This factor makes it a lot easier to remain on the diet and keep losing weight. While other diets have their followers peckish between meals, the Atkins dieters obtain relief from continuous hunger. The Atkins diet, with its specific recommendation of foods and ingredients, has powerful appetite suppressing effects.

The first key component is the amount of protein in the Atkins diet. Protein, much more so than carbohydrates, has the power to satiate hunger pangs. If you have ever eaten a carbohydrate dense meal and then felt hungry again shortly afterwards, you know that carbohydrates don’t have much staying power as a hunger satisfier. Protein, on the other hand, when it is combined with a small amount of healthy fats, can keep you feeling full for long periods of time.

One of the most powerful appetite suppressant foods on the Atkins diet are eggs. Eggs are a great form of quick and easy protein. A recent report showed that eating eggs for breakfast would actually keep hunger pangs at bay throughout the rest of the day. The study concerned two groups of women. One group ate eggs for breakfast and the other had a breakfast of buns and cream cheese.

The calorie count for both types of breakfasts was exactly the same. The participants noted down what they ate for the remainder of the day and answered questions about their hunger and satisfaction levels throughout the day. The results of the study showed that the women who ate the eggs for breakfast felt more satisfied throughout the entire day and they ate less at each meal than those women who were in the buns group.

Eggs contain about 6 grammes of protein each, which helps to regulate blood sugar levels and produces a feeling of satisfaction. Both of these factors help to control cravings. Egg yolks also contain lutein and xenazanthin. These nutrients have been shown to have amazing effects on eye health. Therefore, it is important to consume the whole egg, and not just the white. Eggs contain choline which is important for maintaining brain function and memory. These nutrients are just an additional benefit to the appetite suppressing qualities.

Broccoli and cauliflower, two of the most recommended vegetables on the Atkins programme, also have appetite-suppressant effects. These vegetables are very bulky and they help make your stomach feel full. When your stomach feels full, it will actually create a chemical response in your brain. Your body will reduce its appetite because it assumes that your stomach is full of high calorie foods. This occurs regardless of what is actually in your stomach. You can achieve the same results with water and psyllium husk fibre. Both broccoli and cauliflower provide bulk in your diet and are essential vegetables for the Atkins plan.

The Atkins diet focuses on eating small, protein packed meals a few times a day. This will help maintain your blood sugar level in a stabilized state and avoid carbohydrate-induced cravings. With high carbohydrate diets, you are riding a wave of carbohydrate highs. After you have eaten, you feel fantastic and full. Then after a few hours, you come crashing down and are hungrier than you were before eating the carbohydrates. This cycle continues ad infinitum and, over time, you will eat more and gain weight.

The protein, fat and vegetable meals of the Atkins diet put your blood sugar back in balance. They provide just enough of each sort of food, with a proper amount of carbohydrates (from the vegetables). The vegetables provide quick carbohydrate energy, and the protein gives the meal its staying power. This combination helps suppress your appetite throughout the day.

The Atkins diet is really a craving control plan that helps suppress your appetite – your desire for food or calories. If you’ve had a problem with carbohydrate cravings before, this new way of eating ie dieting will help control those desires. The more you eat on the plan, the better your cravings will be controlled and the easier it will be to follow the diet – the more you practice the diet the easier it gets, because you won’t want to eat carbohydrates all the time.

How Beginners Select A Marathon Training Schedule

Posted by Seth Simmons | Posted in weight loss | Posted on 25-08-2011-05-2008

As a running coach I have worked with hundreds of runners on their journey through training for a marathon. One of the first questions I get asked by runners that are wanting to undertake this event is how do I train for a marathon.

Marathon running is great for the cardiovascular system and it can be a seriously awesome fitness hobby. At the same time it can be very taxing on your legs so it’s important to progress slowly.

All training schedules start at different levels of total weekly mileage. Many begin with a long run distance of 5 miles, other with 15. You need to ascertain your fitness level and how many miles you can comfortably cover before beginning any one particular program. This is the first, and most important step.

Replacing the spent calories that you burn when running these high miles is vital. You will need around two thousand extra calories per week to maintain your weight, if all other dietary variables are equal. Eat plenty of carbohydrates and protein from wholesome, all natural sources.

Water is a crucial part of training. You need to stay hydrated to optimal levels. Maintain a good balance in hydration also requires you to add some extra salt to your diet. Have a physician monitor you blood pressure as this can be good indication of over or under hydrating.

Keeping a slow pace on your long runs is very important. Too often runners head out too fast and end up spending too many days in recover. You need to run high mileage weeks and this is hard to do if you’re sore from running too fast.

The final phase of your training will include a tapering program. This is designed to reduce your total miles and give your body time to rest and recover before the race. You will cut your mileage by about fifty percent.

After completing the race your going to need some recovery time, serious recovery time. Estimates vary but some say at least 3 weeks. You can walk and even jog slowly during this time but make sure to try and stay away from any lengthy running.

Choosing the right marathon training schedule is everything when undertaking this kind of goal. Give it some time and do diligent research and you will be well on your way to being a marathon runner.

Atkins Diet Basics

Posted by Owen Jones | Posted in weight loss | Posted on 15-08-2011-05-2008

The popular name for the ‘Atkins Nutritional Approach’ is the ‘Atkins Diet’, which was the invention of Doctor Robert Atkins. Dr. Atkins had put on a lot of surplus weight while he was studying in medical school and after reading about a new diet in a medical journal, he decided to refine it and publish it as his own.

Atkins, in his Atkins Diet book, wrote that he believed that the prevailing theories about putting on weight were completely wrong. First, he dismissed the idea that saturated fats were bad; instead he said it was it was carbohydrates that caused the weight problems Americans have these days. Atkins declared that our obsession with avoiding fat actually aggravated the problem. He pointed out that the low-fat foods that were high in carbohydrates were not helping the nation, which probably meant that people on a diet often ate foods that were worse for them than what they had normally eaten.

The Atkins diet shifted the focus. Atkins stated that by avoiding carbohydrates, people would consume their stored body fats. And, of course, if you lose the fat, you lose the weight. He said it was not only a matter of eating less. Atkins held that a diet could actually help you burn calories and that The Atkins Diet supposedly burned more calories than were being consumed everyday. But the claims were contested.

Dr. Atkins also promulgated the positive influence that his diet should have on people with Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a disease you usually get early in life, but Type 2 is more often closely associated with diet and excess body weight. Therefore, it should follow that any diet that helps decrease weight, will help people with Type 2 diabetes. The Atkins diet is low in carbohydrates, which ought to be avoided by those with Type 2 diabetes regardless of the caloric intake, which the Atkins diet does, so Atkins claimed that those who suffer Type 2 diabetes would no longer need medication such as insulin. Doctors do not agree with Atkins on this point, although they do agree, that a lower carbohydrate intake helps control Type 2 diabetes, but there is no proof that carbohydrates cause diabetes.

What are the steps one has to take to follow the Atkins diet? It is followed in four phases – Induction; On-Going Weight loss, Pre-maintenance and Lifetime Maintenance. Here is an overview of the most important phase – The Induction Phase.

The Induction phase is the most difficult phase of the Atkins diet. Atkins is flexible about the time period ” but recommends it lasts for two weeks. During this phase carbohydrates are severely curtailed ” you can only consume up to 20 grams per day. The goal is to enter a fat burning metabolic phase called ketosis when the body, starved of glucose, will start converting stored fat into fatty acids needed to power the body. Weight loss during this phase can be large ” some Atkins followers reported losses of 5-10 pounds a week or more.

Learning the ideal carbohydrate levels for weight loss and for day to day intake after the weight loss ends, are the goals of the three final phases in the Atkins diet. Millions of people are still losing the weight they want to on this diet ” but beware the dangers of taking in too much fat.

Tips For Natural Weight Loss

Posted by Adriana Noton | Posted in weight loss | Posted on 29-06-2011-05-2008

There are many ideas and opinions floating around on weight loss, but many still struggle to reach their goals. Some tactics are far more potent that others, so learning and employing these effective methods is important. Making progress on this front is possible for those who are dedicated and ready to make a few key changes.

A very important aspect of this process is making healthy and fundamentally sound changes. Many tips and tricks are either ineffective or unhealthy. Remember that it is best to take a natural approach to achieving this goal. Those who do this in a proven and natural way will make progress much more quickly, and they are far more likely to avoid weight fluctuations that can be very aggravating.

One of the most fundamental aspects is addressing our eating habits. It is typically a person’s dietary habits that cause weight gains, especially when combined with a lack of physical activity. Those who eat highly processed foods that are found in fast food restaurants and grocery stores will quickly become frustrated with their lack of progress. A better solution is to begin eating foods which are natural and whole whenever possible.

The majority of highly processed foods are loaded in saturated fat, calories, and sugar. Eating these things will quickly put the brakes on the process of weight loss. Other foods like pasta and many types of bread should also be avoided for the most part. Luckily, there are many healthy, natural, and largely unprocessed foods that can aid in this venture while still providing a high nutritional value. These foods include fish, lean meats like chicken, fruit, vegetables, and sources of 100% whole grains and fiber.

Those who are trying to succeed in rapid weight loss should adjust not only what they eat, but how much they eat as well. Overeating leads to a calorie overload which will result in the body storing those extra calories as additional fat. Start carefully counting calories throughout the day as an effective way to control meal portions. Most experts recommend eating somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 calories a day depending on body type.

One significant source of calories which tends to be overlooked is sodas and other drinks that are very high in sugar or calories. These drinks must always count towards the daily caloric intake when totalling up the total for the day. A better idea is to simply drink water which will not contribute to fat accumulation.

Many tend to dread exercise, but it is a very important part of the fat burning equation. The goal is to create a caloric deficit in the body, leaving us with a need for energy. When this occurs, this energy will be taken from fat which means faster fat burning. There are many great exercises available, with cardiovascular workouts being especially important. Try things like running or jumping rope for their superior fat burning benefits.

Weight loss is often a confusing topic. With so many opinions, gimmicks, and fad diets on the market it is often difficult to figure out where our responsibilities lie. Experts tend to agree that a strict diet and frequent exercise are the keys to making real progress. Those who make a commitment to these aspects will begin shedding pounds in a safe, healthy, natural, and proven way.

This is a natural weight loss clinic that helps its clients achieve their weight loss goals in record time. Consult these weight loss experts for nutrition planning, organic dieting, and progress tracking with the useful Body Mass Index Calculator.

A Primer on Some of the Leading Diet Plans

Posted by Clara Stewart | Posted in weight loss | Posted on 27-06-2011-05-2008

There’s certainly no shortage of diet plans, as you can find lots of books, programs, websites, etc., all claiming they have the best way to lose weight. Fundamentally, you just need to pick a diet and commit yourself to it. This will demand strict control in order to achieve a satisfying outcome. Here’s a quick introduction to some of the more popular diet plans.

A very well like diet is the Caveman Diet, or the Paleo Diet, which has been around for quite some time. Back before junk food was invented people ate much healthier, which is the basis of this diet. For many people this isn’t an easy task, as you have to stop eating nice tasting junk foods that are easy and convenient.

At the same time, you have to make sure you’re getting enough protein, and even some fat; the recommended formula is usually 40% protein, 30% carbs and 30% fat. Easy enough to follow, by simply counting every calorie that you consume, you will do well with this particular program. Be sure that the program that you choose does not cut out too many daily calories because this could actually compromise your health.

Diets that follow a low carb, high protein model are among the best known; the Atkins diet is one of them. The reason you gain weight according to these diets is eating carbohydrates and you can burn fat more efficiently by eating more lean proteins. Some people do well on this type of diet, but others find that eating very few carbs leaves them with little energy.

Some people believe that a raw foods diet is not only the best way to lose weight, but also the healthiest way to eat. You eat no cooked foods with this diet. You can, however, eat a wide variety of seeds, fruits, vegetables, and legumes. But not everyone will try this rather extreme diet. Some people who have tried the raw foods diet found they feel better, have more energy, and have lost weight.

There are many theories why the same diet won’t work for everyone who tries it. Your blood type is what determines the foods you should eat, according to one theory. This may or may not be true, but many people have great success with a particular diet while others fail with it.

Some people feel better on a vegetarian diet, while others feel run down. When you pay attention to how various foods make you feel, you will be better able to determine the right type of diet for you. We’ve looked at some diet plans and their benefits and drawbacks.

Losing weight requires a balance of eating the right foods in the right quantities and also doing enough physical exercise. Being more active in daily activities, like walking up the stairs instead of catching the elevator, is a great way of losing weight in conjunction with following an exercise program.

Losing body weight can help you look and feel younger. In the same way that you can exercise to lose weight, you can also exercise to lose face fat. There are even special facial exercises for wrinkles that can reduce the signs of aging.

The Rise of Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding Procedures

Posted by Adriana Noton | Posted in weight loss | Posted on 05-06-2011-05-2008

0

There are various causes of obesity that include: lifestyle habits, genetics, and environmental issues. Lack of exercise, high-calorie food intake, overeating, and consumption of too much food, can all contribute to obesity. Obesity related health conditions include: heart disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, arthritis, sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. In recent years, obesity has been on the rise. Traditional diet and exercise programs have been shown to be ineffectual at treating obesity over the long term. Because, obesity can be treated medically and surgically, there has been a significant rise of Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding.

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding, also known as Lap-Banding, is a type of weight loss surgery designed for obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater. It uses an inflatable adjustable gastric Lap-Band which is implanted around the top portion of a person’s stomach by way of laparoscopic surgery. For people younger than 21 years of age, the rate of laparoscopic adjustable gastric Lap-Banding (LAGB) increased 7-fold from 2005 to 2007 according to the results of a study in the United States reported in the print issue of Pediatrics.

Additionally, a report presented at the 26th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery in June 2008 showed that 31,333 bariatric surgery procedures were performed from 2004 to 2007. During this period, the use of laparoscopic adjustable gastric lap-banding procedures increased from 7% to 23%. As well, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development says 25 per cent of Canadians are obese, and the rate is expected to increase by five per cent over the next 10 years. The result has been an increase in Lap-Band procedures in Canada.

The popularity of Lap-Banding is due to the surgery being a safe and minimally invasive procedure. As well, it is a fully reversible procedure. The lower cost and lower morbidity rates compared with laparoscopic gastric bypass is another benefit of having the procedure. Because the Lap-Band is adjustable, individual care can be optimized to meet the patient’s needs after the procedure. People who choose the Lap-Band technique tend to lose the desired weight and keep it off long term. It is a beneficial procedure as it can help a person with excess weight feel full and satisfied eating less which results in a dramatic weight loss. The procedure is an outpatient procedure and recovery time is good as people can get on with their lives reasonably quickly after surgery.

Lap-band procedures are safe. In fact, on Feb. 16, 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave approval to expand the use of the Lap-Band to include obese individuals with a BMI of 30 to 34 who also have an existing conditions related to their obesity. With the Lapband, no cutting or stapling is involved like the gastric bypass surgery and less than 1% of patients report any complications. If you are interested in Lap-Band surgery take the time to investigate the procedure so you will make an informed decision. This will ensure that you get the best weight loss outcome and you will live a longer and healthier life while feeling great about your physical appearance.

CIBO Clinic offers safe and sustainable results for weight loss surgery. The Lap Band reduces the amount of food your stomach can hold and allows you to feel fuller longer. Research about the Lap band surgery cost as you learn more about the process.
